The primary purpose of this blog will be to showcase and promote Real Progressives. The title of this blog is not a reference to me personally, (I'll let readers make their own judgements about that), but rather to my quest to discover and promote Real Progressives.
The secondary purpose of this blog will be to uncover and expose phony, fraudulent and/or hypocritical exploitation of concepts such as; "anti-corporate", "anti-consumerist", "green/pro-environment", "non-profit social activism" and "social justice", by individuals and organizations that falsely portray themselves as genuine adherents to these concepts.
These progressive concepts are of great importance to me - I have lived my life in accordance with principles derived from them for over 30 years. I believe that these concepts are of importance to our society as well, that they are capable of making contributions to more humane, just, and sustainable human communities.
I haven't been a leader in movements derived from these concepts. I'm not a professional or celebrity activist. I'm a rather ordinary 'working class joe', and for the most part I've been content with quietly living the principles I profess in my own life.
Recently, I've felt compelled to become more vocal. I've been watching a variety of persons and organizations rip-off and exploit these progressive concepts for their own purposes, and I feel the time has come to confront the phonys, frauds and hypocrites.
I cannot sit idly by and watch these concepts degraded and corrupted as marketing gimmicks, get-rich-quick schemes, social control mechanisms, and as bait to attract socially conscious & concerned persons to organizations and movements whose professed interest in these concepts is betrayed by their superficial committment to actually living them.
